Common Florida Water Issues

Water Softeners and Water Filtration Systems Can Solve Most of Your Common Water Problems

Hard and water that has been passed through an adequate water filtration system can cause a host of problems in your home. Some can be very expensive to remedy. Here are some of the most common you may find in Central Florida:

Hard Water Spots: These are caused by minerals in your water that build up on your glassware, shower doors, fixtures, clothes or other items throughout your home. Installing a water softener will remove these minerals from your water and using soft water will also help your appliances and plumbing to last longer.

‘Rotten Egg’ Smell: Hydrogen Sulfide (sulfur) in your water gives it a ‘rotten egg’ smell. It’s extremely unpleasant, and in some cases makes it difficult to be used for cooking or drinking.

Chlorine Smell: Some cities disinfect city water by adding chlorine to it. Unfortunately this can cause the water to smell or taste like chlorine. This also causes dry hair and skin. A water filtration system will solve this problem.

Musty or Earthy Smell: Algae, mold and bacteria can multiply from your water source and end up in your plumbing system. Use a filtration system to prevent this from happening.

Metallic Taste: A metallic smell or taste in your water is usually caused by metals in the water, such as iron and manganese. Not only does it not taste good, ingesting too many of these substances can be harmful to your health.

Rust Stains: This is also caused by iron in your water supply. You may notice rusty drains or fixtures. If this problem is not taken care of, the iron will eventually stain everything your water comes into contact with.

Acid Stains: Acidity of water is measured on a pH scale of 0-14, with 7 being neutral. A pH value below 7.0 is acidic and will corrode copper plumbing, brass fixtures, heating elements, and steel tanks. The result of this corrosion is a blue-green stain on sinks and tubs. Filtering your water will remove the acid that causes these problems.

These common water problems can be solved by the installation of either a water softener, purification and/or a water filtration system.
